3rdThurs: Metal Rouge + COMBAT!
find more eventsMetal Rouge’s sound can be difficult to put into words. They’re kinda like …
“Breathing in the cold air. long deep slow and articulated breaths. holding for 3, 5 seconds, and then exhale 1. 2. 3. repeat. feel it. the cold crisp air touching it with your eyelashes in winter midtones. feeling something. NOW. concerned with aquatic insects living on mountain ranges going extinct as rivers warm up and glaciers disappear. concerned with the disappearance of something miniscule but symbiotically brilliant. breathing in rain. every single sparse drop.”
Ah. Yes. They’re like that.
And COMBAT!, from LA musician and KXLU DJ Mark Nieto? Well, since we’re in a quoting mood:
“Originally playing in punk bands throughout his youth, COMBAT! was turned onto hip hop and electronic music during his college years and it redirected his musical goals. Captivated by the sounds of Aphex Twin, Prefuse 73, J-Dilla, The Books and others, he set out to create his own abstract compositions. Using found sounds, samples from records, as well as his own personal recordings, he creates multi-textural pieces that give the listener a unique experience with each play.”
Ooh, and we’ll have a short film sent all the way from New Zealand from sound and visual duo Eve Gordon and Sam Hamilton. So cool. (You can quote us on that).
