the story of {open}

{open} opened its doors on November 15, 2003. In March of 2007, {open} relocated to mid-town Long Beach and its current location in the  4th Street business district known as “Retro Row.”

{open} is owned and operated by founders Sé Reed and shea M gauer.

Sé is mesmerized by the concept of time and does not want to live in a world without paper. She got her BA in print journalism from CSULB and hasn’t wanted to leave Long Beach since. In addition to {open}, Sé develops and codes websites for folks like LA Record and Blood Is The New Black via her consulting company Sé Reed Media. She also serves as a specialty business advisor at the Small Business Development Center hosted at Long Beach City College and conducts seminars and workshops on various web and business development topics.

shea M gauer

In addition to {open}, shea contributes illustrations and editorial graphics for numerous local publications (ontheroughseesofmyeyes.blogspot.com). shea currently plays bass in local group Greater California, performs with the experimental duo smgsap and the Southern California Soundscape Ensemble, and is also a member of FLOOD, a local artist collective responsible for downtown long beach’s annual SoundWalk event, and various other installation events.
